Man United should consider selling these 3 players in January

The summer transfer window has only just closed its doors, but the Man United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are already speculating about the upcoming winter window in January. And who they would offload. Mourinho seems to have a settled team selection come match day with some surprise packages in there such as Phil Jones and Juan Mata being first team regulars. With their unbeaten start to the league campaign and looking like one of the favourites to lift the trophy come the end of the season, the Red Devils will be wanting to freshen up the squad up and cut some players who aren’t making the cut. United will be starting to look at recouping some of the money back, having spent big in recent windows in the post-Fergie era. Mourinho is looking like his old ruthless self once again and has his sights firmly set on the Premier League this year, it looks like nothing will stand in his way and these three players might feel the blowback of the Old Trafford boss’ eagerness to succeed. The hugely expensive left-back as largely failed to show the form that warranted such a big money move from Southampton a few years back. Blighted by injury, fitness issues and lack of form, this may be the time to cut the strings. Shaw has all the potential to be the United full-back for years to come. With his pace and attacking flavour, he could be a real fan favourite but it looks increasingly. His many chances have all passed him by and with the return of Marcos Rojo from injury soon, Shaw could see himself once again warming the bench. The England international has not made a first-team league appearance yet this season with Mourinho preferring a duo of Eric Bailly and Phil Jones at the back. Alongside new signing Victor Lindelof and the versatile Daley Blind, Smalling is finding himself down the United pecking order. After picking up an injury last season, Smalling seemed to have received criticism from the Old Trafford boss for not fighting for the team. Smalling is more of a squad player now and if he wants to start getting first team minutes, a move somewhere else could be the right thing for the centre back.

Highly rated goalkeeper Pereira has made just one Premier League appearance last season in the final game against Crystal Palace. Sitting in third place behind world class David De Gea and reliable Argentine Sergio Romero, it’s hard to see when Pereira will get is break. You’d think it would be the League Cup games but Mourinho often prefers Romero to give De Gea a rest. The sensible option would be to go out on loan but to further his career and cement a first team spot at number one he may have to look elsewhere than Old Trafford.
